When we moved into the new place post-bed bugs, there was a building across the way from us and I could see one inside, which felt like a sign. The Eames Lounge was the one MCM piece I had noticed before. It started with the Eames Lounge Chair and an appreciation for the style in Mad Men. It felt like it was time to get some quality pieces that would stay with us for a lifetime.īut I knew absolutely nothing about interior design, so I fully immersed myself in research. We were also beginning to do well financially. I figured it didn’t make sense to get more temporary furniture we’d just be replacing again in a few years. We had been with each other for a while and it seemed like we were starting to build a life together. Starting fresh, I wanted to help us move past this trauma by creating a place that we would be proud to call home. I still had an ugly oversized reclining arm chair. It was all my bachelor stuff anyway, and I had no style or knowledge of furniture. When we were able to get the hell out of there and reset in a new place, we didn't want to bring along any of the furniture that had been exposed to bed bugs and covered with pesticides. But the dream quickly turned into a nightmare when bed bugs climbed up from the unit below and assaulted us in our sleep. Three years ago, my girlfriend and I moved in together and combined our resources to get our dream apartment on the 25th floor of a luxury complex in downtown Los Angeles. With the downtime these days, I’m finally getting around to posting this.
